I have established that the Datafeed Import Plugin for WordPress will work equally as well for Drop Shippers as it does for Affiliate Marketers.

Many Drop Shipping companies or networks provide Datafeeds in a similar way to affiliate networks. These datafeeds are in CSV, XML and RSS formats just like those that the datafeed plugin is designed to work with.

I am working hard to get a user forum sorted out, however, I want to make sure that it does not go the way of the last forum I setup that was overwhelmed with SPAM. I am working on making the new Forum User Only, it will use the username and password you already have to download updates to the WordPress plugins.  This way I will turn off all user registration to the forum so the only people who can access it are those who are existing users of the software.

I hope that this forum will provide you with an area where you can discuss best practices, help each other out, talk about your projects and create a steer to where you want me to develop the plugin in the future.

I have lost count of how many SPAM messages I have deleted manually, but today following this fix, I have deleted 467,893 support tickets from the support systems database, this unfortunately means that some genuine tickets have been lost, however, with such a volume of SPAM I have had little option.

The fact that this vulnerability has been found is old news and the TimThumb script has been updated by its developers, however, some theme developers have yet to update their themes with the new more secure version of TimThumb.

If you are running a WordPress website make sure you install Timthumb Vulnerability Scanner a plugin that will look at your theme Directory and tell you if you are using the TimThumb script and if it needs updating it gives you the option to do so without any messing about with checking code or uploading new files.

I also Use WordPress Firewall and I have recently noticed heavy attacks looking for specific themes and the TimThumb script, so there are hackers that are trying to exploit this vunerability.

This plugin is a must… and while you are at it make sure you install WordPress Firewall 2 and Login Lockdown plugins, it is worth 5 minutes of your time.

The problem that it tackles is being faced with a WordPress site that for one reason or another has a poor category structure. This maybe because your blog has grown organically over the years and the category structure no-longer reflects the site you now have, you may have bought or taken over a site from someone else, or like us you maybe using Worpdress as a back end to an affiliate or ecommerce site where the raw data your are dealing with has poor categories.

We use WordPress for datafeed driven site using our other plugin the Datafeed import plugn for WordPress. Datafeeds are a great way to get masses of data into your site, however, the categorisation in datafeeds is often poor or simply reflects the merchants own website. This hardly ever suits what you want for your niche site so you are faced with the task of going through thousands of posts and re-categorising them.

This is where the category master plugin comes in. The plugin automates the process of adding posts to categories, it will work on both new posts as you publish or edit them or it can be run on the archive of your website. It can even to set to periodically ‘re-run’ on your site to ensure that the categories reflect what you require.

The plugin works by allowing you to create rules that it will follow, these rules are based around keywords or phrases that the plugin will look for in each post, if that keyword is found it will add that post to a specified category, a simple solution which saves a huge amount of time.

Here is a screenshot of some rules I have setup on one of my sites, you can see that the keywords have been setup to be added into the category of my choosing.

There are many reasons for your to improve the categorisation of your site, a major one is that it will improve the internal linking of your site which is of key importance, especially to Googles quality score, but it also allows search engine spiders and your users to easily find the content they are looking for.

The honest truth is I have become a little disillusioned since the Google Panda update which seems to have had an impact on this site. My page rank was reduced by one and the result has been a halving in the visitor numbers, however that being said, this site still gets a good readership so I should continue with keeping it up.

I have considered why the site has taken a hit from Panda, all content on the site is totally unique, but one thing it does do which has been a concern of mine for a while with regards to ranking is that it covers a diverse range of topics, it looks at my Internet and software work and affiliate marketing which all fit into a little niche, but then it also looks at DIY, tools, gardening, cooking and family life.

I am not going to change that, this is my blog, about my life and if Google does not like that the raspberries to them!

So what have I been up to in the mast month?

Datafeed Import Plugin 3.1

As you will know I recently released a major update to my Datafeed Import Plugin for WordPress, version 3.0 has been a great success, as with all of these things there have been a  few niggles that I have been working on. I am about to release version 3.01 of the datafeed plugin for WordPress with some minor bug fixes.

I have also been having problems with SPAM on my Digitalquill Support system, literally hundreds of thousands of SPAM messages, and nearly 20k in one day, this has effectively killed the support system I used and made it impossible for me to find genuine tickets.

I am in the process of doing two things to combat this, I am trying to put a CAPACHA into the new ticket form on the ticket system, however, this is third part software which thus far has not liked what i have done to it so back to the drawing board.

I am also working on creating a user forum for all the software I have developed, I did have a forum in the past, but this was one where I allowed users to register and participate, this soon suffered the same fate as the support system and was overwhelmed by SPAM.

With this new forum I intend to make it user only, using the username and password provided to users when they buy the software, the same username and password they use to download the software. In this way I will disable all user registration and as such it will be a private forum where only users can post, that is unless spammers find a hole in the phpBB software and exploit it.

Category Master Plugin

I have just released a new plugin, which I will post more about here in the next few hours. The Category Master plugin allows you to automate the categorisation of your WordPress blog.

As with my other software, this has been built out of a requirement in my own business, it complements the Datafeed and Amazon import plugins as it allows you to automatically create your own categories rather then using the ones provided in the datafeed.

As I say I will post here about the launch of this new plugin and give you more details about what it is and what it does.

Family life

Family life has been busy, I am still finishing off the Orangery, we have had some delays due to electrics, but now the floor is down, skirting boards are on and about the only thing left to do is paint. We have even been looking at wallpaper and decoration for the dining room which connects to the Orangery so we must be nearly there!

Eva has not been at school over the summer so there has been some entertaining to do there, we went to a great place in North Lincolnshire last week called Elsham Hall, it was fairly quiet as it was the last day they were open before the winter, but Eva loved feeding the fish in the lakes and rolling down the hills. She has a real affinity with animals and stood for ages stroking the sheep and goats.

We will be on holiday soon, just a short 5 day break to North Yorkshire Moors, but it should be good.

Version 3.0 of the datafeed import plugin is packed with new features and improvements, this is a quick summary of those changes, but for a full list of the current plugins functionality please visit the plugins website

Supporting Custom Content in posts

The main new feature in Version 3.0 of the plugin is that the plugins automatic update engine has been rewritten, in the past this update engine updated the whole post created by the plugin, and although extremely useful for keeping your site up-to-date this meant that you could not add any custom content to any post. V3.0 handles those updates more intelligently, it identifies datafeed content and updates only that content, leaving the rest of the post unchanged.

This means that the Datafeed import plugin now overcomes the greatest problem with any datafeed driven website, that one of being peanilized for duplicate content. The plugin already went a good way to covering this issue with its ability to mix datafeed content with static control and allowing the user the flexibility to choose which fields they want to use from the datafeed.

The ability to add your own custom content to individual posts while maintaining the datafeed data means that you can add value to your site and rank well in the search engines. I believe that this makes my Datafeed Import plugin for WordPress the only SEO friendly Datafeed Import system on the market today, not only for WordPress but for all Datafeed Import scripts.

This functionality also allows you to use the plugin slightly differently. You can use it in your review site where the plugin only provides pricing and link information for example. You can use the filtering system to pick the product or products you require, make the plugin create a post with a link and a price and then add your own review of that product to the post. The plugin will then maintain the price and ensure that you always have the correct link for that post.

With this new functionality in mind I have added the facility to create draft posts rather than having them scheduled or published directly. This means that if you are using the plugin in your review site, you can write the reviews on the posts created by the plugin at your convenience and then publish those posts when you are ready. the plugin can still create published posts directly and also drip feed posts with its scheduled posting system as it always could.

Interface redesign and usability improvements

I have improved the layout of the interface and hidden away most of the less used features within an advanced section meaning that the interface is now clearer and easier to use. I have also introduced contextual menus to the template designer, where by you can right click your mouse and insert the field references to the template. I have also included a field on the WYSIWYG editor toolbar to help you build the references into the body of your posts template.

Rewrite of XML support

I have rewritten all the XML support within the plugin. It now supports feeds with deeper nested nodes, and handles XML more efficiently that it did in the past. This improves the plugins ability to import both XML and RSS feeds.

Performance improvements

A major improvement in version 3.0 are the improvements to the back end of the plugin to make it more efficient and improve performance. These are improvements that you can not see, but it is hoped that this will overcome some of the memory issues that some users have experienced especially with shared hosting. The work that the plugin does is very complex and inherently intensive, but there is still work to be done, and I will be working on these for future versions of the plugin.

New Website

I have also launched a new website to go with the new version of the plugin, this new website carries more tutorials and help files, step-by-step videos and integral support and customer login to allow you to get support and download the latest version of the plugin. Whats next at Digitalquill?

The work on the datafeed import plugin is by no means finished. Users of the plugin can now vote on what new features will be included in Version 3.1 of the plugin. This will mean that the plugin will be developed in-line with what the users want.

I am also looking at developing a stand alone version of the datafeed import script, this will be a system that can be used on non-wordpress sites. The ethos in its construction will be the same in that you will not need any detailed programming skills to use this script, but you will achieve the same functionality as you can with the WordPress Plugin.

In the immediate future, I am planning to spend some time getting a plugin I created some time ago ready for public release. I created my Category Master Plugin about 18 months ago due to a specific problem with datafeed marketing in that often the categorization within datafeeds is poor, thus I wanted a facility to be able to overcome this issue and move prost into categories without editing each post. I will post more about this new plugin in due course, but any datafeed marketer will find this new plugin very useful.

Thus far I have upgraded about 10 of my WordPress sites to 3.2, all without a hitch, one I thought was going to be a problem in the end was not, it seemed to take for-ever to upgrade, but I left it and it did upgrade, perhaps the WordPress Servers are busy with all the new downloads.

My advice is, check your server meets the requirements and then upgrade, you will notice a vast difference.

The good news is that the Datafeed import plugin and the Amazon Import Plugin both seem to be fully working with WP3.2. I need to take some time to test the new Version 3.0 of the datafeed import plugin, but all seems to be working nicely.

This is great tool because I can see the impact of changes I make, or efforts I put into the promotion or SEO of a site. I also have the site configured to alert me if a site loses Page Rank. Although much of the time one can not put a finger on why a site loses Page Rank, it is always good to investigate, significant changes to the Google Algorithm such as the so called Panda updates affect different sites in different ways, if after such a release the software alerts me to a drop in page rank for a site I can take action.

Today I have been looking at that script with fresh eyes, and have made some major improvements to it, it now records Google and Yahoo Back Links, Indexed pages in Google and Yahoo and Alexa rank.

I have plans to make this into software that I can release. I need to do some work on the interfaces and write an installer for the software, but I believe that others in my position will find this software useful. Simple Plugin Method

The simplest option is to install a new plugin called ‘Is Your Server Ready for WordPress 3.2′ once activated this plugin will show a message at the top of your screen

Upload that file to your server and then browse to it, this will give you an info screen showing the configuration of your server, it will show the versions of MySQL and PHP alone with all the extensions installed on your server.

The team behind WordPress and the army of OpenSource developers do seem to be pushing on with the WordPress platform quite rapidly at the moment. It is not all that long ago that the huge update of version 3 of wordpress was released and we are now looking at another major update to the software. This can only be a good thing, but, if development is too rapid they will need to start to do some change management as users will want to stick with what they know rather than have it change.

Install

The install of version 3.2 is the same simple install we all know and love from WordPress. Simply create the database, download the latest copy of wordpress, unpack it on your web server and navigate to those files via your web browser, the installer then gives you the same three screens as it always does, first database details, second run the install and finally details about your site and Admin user.

It is worth noting at this point, my advice is not to use the default admin as your user name, change this to something only you know. If you use admin, you give away half of the login credentials to any potential brute force attacker. I wish the wordpress team would not default this field to admin, they should leave it blank and ask the user to choose something unique. This would then mean that brute force attackers have to get two pieces of information and also match them in order to crack your login. This combined with using the Login Lockdown plugin makes it very unlikely a hacker could gain access that way.

Browser Error

When I first went into the Dashboard it gave a rather large red alert across the page, ‘Insecure browser’ it identified that I was using an old version of Internet Explorer, when in actual fact I am using the latest version of IE9. I hope that this is sorted before the final version.

The release notes state that WordPress is made to work with modern browsers

I know that the OpenSource community has some form of vendetta against Internet Explorer, however, this would alienate many users as IE is still the most popular web browser.

New Theme

WordPress 3.2 will come with a new default theme called ‘Twenty Eleven, this is a very stylish theme, it is based on the Duster theme, with rotating header images and post format support. It really does look a great deal better than the Twenty Ten theme in my opinion

New Admin Theme

There is a new admin theme, which does leave the interface looking cleaner and neater. The WordPress interface does tend to get a little messy once you get a number of plugins installed, custom post types setup and the like. This theme does seem to go some of the way in cleaning this up and making it more manageable. It has to be noted that the Favorites menu option has been dropped in this release, so if you have any plugins that use that menu, you will loose access to them until the plugin developers release a fix.

New Post Interface

The New post interface has had a big overhaul, and it has to be said the work has really paid off, the default interface removes many of the sections that used to be present by default, that if truth be told many people did not use, custom fields, track backs, discussion, author and others are all hidden by default, if you need access to them you can add them to the default view.

This results in there being more room on screen for the posts field. Essentially what you get is a title field and a body field, the right hand column is retained for tags and categories, but there is less clutter on the screen so that you an focus on writing.

Making more use of the Admin Bar

The admin bar was something that was introduced to wordpress in version 3. Although I do not use it I have spoken and seen users that use it exclusively to manage their wordpress website. Version 3.2 of WordPress brings new functionality to this Admin bar. You can now dd media, manage links and users, control your themes and plugins directly from the Admin bar.

Performance

The release notes state that there have been a great deal of performance updates to this version of WordPress. It has to be said that this is much needed especially with Googles latest statements that Web Page load time will contribute significantly to the ranking of your website. It remains to be seen how WordPress 3.2 will perform on a live site, once it has been populated with thousands of posts, categories and tags, but, on face value this is a good thing

Change in requirements

A critical change is that WordPress 3.2 will now only be supported for PHP5.2.2 and above and Mysql 5.0 and above. This will prove significant, I am always surprised by the number of companies still providing hosting packages based around PHP4. We have great difficulty ensuring that our plugins work with both PHP4 and PHP5, but I am not sure that it is a good option to create a product that will not work on PHP4.

I do hope that there are some checks in place before the system runs its automated upgrade. I can see that many wordpress users will not know what version of PHP they have on their hosting package. If the installer does not check before running its update then this will cause many sites to break, and I am sure that reversing this upgrade will not a simple task for a non-technical person.

On the flip side, perhaps it will force those web hosts that are still running PHP4 to upgrade. There really is no reason to be running PHP4 these days.

Conclusion

Overall the updates to WordPress 3.2 look good, I really like the new post interface, I think that this will help bloggers concentrate on writing rater than filtering the clutter on the interface. I really do hope that the performance improvements will proved to be significant and that perhaps WordPress sites will see an improvement in their ranking as a result.

I am looking forward to upgrading my wordpress sites to version 3.2 although as I run hundreds of WordPress sites this may take me some time!

The difference with Elegant themes to other premium theme sites is as you will have inferred fro the comments above, you buy a membership to the site rather than buying a particular theme, this is a great option for people, like me who run a large number of WordPress sites, with my $39 membership I have the choice of all the themes, if I choose one and later decide it does not work, I can just pick another ot even use one from else where, there is no money directly tied up in that one theme.

As long as you use one theme per year on a live project, you will more than pay for the membership, as other sites sell premium themes for anything from $70 to $120 per theme.

I have used four of thier themes so far on projects I am working on, yes I have tweaked them a little to suit my requirements, but mostly they are being used out of the box.

The Good

• Membership gives you access to all the themes
• You get new themes included in your price
• You can use the themes on as many sites as you wish
• Photoshop PSD files are included with all themes
• Themes are high quality design
• Themes are customisable via the interface
• All themes are feature rich, with gallery style, blog style and page style designs to each theme
• All are tableless designs so good quality CSS
• All work with WordPress 3.x

The Bad

• Some of the themes are a like, but still you get access to all 60 so you have a good choice
• You need a fairly new copy of photoshop to open the PSD files, my Version 5.5 won’t open them, but then it is 10 years out of date!

I was installing and removing some plugins, which users of WordPress Multi-site will know is done view the network admin. I had several plugins ‘network active’ some of these I turned off as I wanted to give the site owners a choice if they should use them or not, one of those was Google Analytics.

What I did not know was that turning off ‘Network Active’ in the WordPress network admin would turn off those plugins in all of the sites, even though they were already being used.

School-boy error really I should have checked, but it does mean that I have about 4 days of missing Analytics stats for 12 of my sites… oh well, no-one died, lesson learned!

Network Active in WordPress Multi User should only be used for plugins that you want to force to be active on each of the sites. I would reserve this for security related plugins such as WordPress Firewall, Login Lockdown and so on.

I thought I would write a slightly different article to my normal affiliate marketing related articles, have you ever said to yourself “I know about affiliate marketing, but are there any other sources of income I could tap into?”

It was a question I asked myself some time ago and a question that I am sure many others have asked. This article looks at Flipping websites and earning money from rapidly developing websites to sell to others, this can tie into your skills as an affiliate or online marketer and get you some extra income.

I have had some moderate success flipping websites with sales of anything between £200 and £5,000, so it can be done and can make decent money.
If you are just starting out, this article describes one method of rapidly creating websites that you can later flip for a profit.

What is Flipping?

Flipping is creating or buying a site with the specific intention of selling it on within a short period of time. Some people just flip domain names, buying domains from the after markets and then selling them on to other parties, hopefully at a profit.

Flipping a website can prove more profitable then simply flipping domain names as you can, with a little work, add value to that site more easily. The problem with flipping websites has always been that there is a certain cost involved with creating the site in the first place which is why many steer away from flipping sites and flip domains.

10 steps to flipping a site for profit

Here are some simple steps to flipping a website using the datafeed import plugin for WordPress.

1. Domain name

The domain name is one of the most important aspects if you plan to flip a site for a profit. It is true to say that the domain name will hold value in its own right, but unless you are really going to get into the world of dommaining, then it is likely that you will have to settle for slightly les good domain names and add value to them in some other way like creating a site, promoting it and then flipping it. Even if the end user has different plans for that domain name that you have with your project, a history of use is of great importance, especially if that domain has some link backs and the website associated with it holds some page rank.

You need to select a Domain name that has good keywords, a good keyword ideally a single word but also can be a short phrase of two to three words, where the exact search term has a high search volume.

You can find the search volume for searches for your phrase on Google using Googles Keyword tool, enter your keyword or phrase and then search, you will also need to change it to show exact search term volume, using the tick box on the left of the interface

This will then tell you a Global and a Local Search volume. Local for me is the UK so if I cam buying a UK domain this is what I pay attention to. It depends on what domain TLD I am buying as to what search volume I want for a domain, for me in the UK I have the choice of co.uk, org.uk and me.uk. I tend to go for the following local search volume for each of those domains:

co.uk  1,000+
org.uk 10,000+
me.uk  100,000+

This reflects the research that shows Googles opinion of each of these TLDs with only a few me.uk domains ranking highly.

You also have the option of using the domain after market. This means buying domain names from people who already own then, Sedo, DomainLore and Acron Domains are all good places to start, although it can get expensive and add costs to your project, it could also mean that you can secure a better domain with a better intrinsic value so you are starting off from a stronger platform.

Domains that have already been used may also have had some of the work done for you, if they have had a website on them previously then they may already have link backs, some history with Google and indeed the very fact that they are aged domain names gives them an added bonus.

Once you have secured the domain name you want, you are ready to start adding value to it

2. Setup WordPress

I use WordPress as the platform for most of my sites, weather I am going to use the datafeed import plugin for WordPress of I am going to build a simple site.

The reason I do this is that I know that WordPress has a solid backbone, it has many of the features I need already built in so I do not have to start coding things, better still it is free!

WordPress Themes allow you to change the way your site looks so that you can make it suit your chosen subject.

3. Install Analytics

Google analytics is critical for any site for you to monitor its performance, traffic sources, keyword used on searches to get to your site and a whole realm of useful features.

It is all the more important for flipping website as we are going to need to prove the visitor rates for our site, indeed, Flippa which I will describe shortly links into Google Analytics to extract those visitor stats to be shown on the listing of your site that you are selling.

This makes everything transparent for the buyer and seller, it is no-good you going out and buying 10,000 links for $20 as these links will be junk at best and spam at worst, yes they will generate a whole bunch of traffic, but useless traffic and the buyer will see that in the stats from Google Analytics.

4. Find some datafeeds

You can find datafeed of all sorts all over the place, the main ones that I use are affiliate datafeeds, try:

Tradedoubler
AffiliateWindow
Commission Junction

However, the plugin will take any CSV, XML or RSS feed, and as such you can syndicate content from many sources.

I would advise affiliate datafeeds as this gives you the opportunity to earn some commission, a site that is already earning commission no-matter how small will always sell better than one without any income, but be prepared to prove that income to potential buyers.

5. Buy A license for the datafeed import plugin

Although the datafeed plugin comes with an unlimited license this is for the owner of that site, if you are flipping sites you will need to get a license for each of those sites. You can buy bulk licenses up front at a substantially reduced rate, please contact me for more details.

6. Create your datafeed site

Create your site using the datafeed import plugin, I have tutorials covering this subject on my site so I will not go through it again, but once you have it created and all the posts created in your site, it is critical that you add some unique content to your site, it is this that adds value. There is no shortcut to this, thus far, I have given you hints and tips of doing things as quickly as possible and automating where you can, but the writing of the content has no such shortcut. It is time consuming and takes a great deal of effort, but then you did not expect to be getting money for nothing did you?

Remember that content can be more than just words, images, videos or audio can be added to all add value to your site. Make sure that this content is useful to people and contributes something to the community and to the subject you are working with, otherwise why would someone give it a monetary value?

7. Promote and build some links

Promotion of your site is where you are going add the most value, the content we talked about above will help you in this regard, after all promoting something that is useful is far easier than promoting nothing.

There are many ways in which you can promote your site, it is all about building links and natural traffic. I have covered this in detail elsewhere, but briefly here is a list of things that you should be doing:

• Twitter – Sign up for a twitter account specially for this site, you can add value to the site by including this in the sale. Tweet about your site, new products you have added, new reviews added and extend this into following news in your subject, for example if your sites is about Car Insurance, tweet about the news that insurance premiums are set to go up. Build up a follower list, which will also have value to your potential buyer.
• Blog Comments – Posting on other peoples blogs is a good way of generating links and traffic, do not just post a Spammy link, engage in the discussion, post something useful and you link will be followed.
• Forum posts – The same as blog comments, engage in the discussion, become known as a good poster, put your link in your signature.
• Blog posts – sign up for a WordPress.com or a blogger.com blog and blog about your projects, what’s new, new products, new reviews etc.
• Ask for link backs – email other webmasters and ask for link backs, you will get knocked back 99 times out of 100 but you may get that one gem link that will make it all worthwhile.

There are 100′s of ways in which you can promote your new site, make sure you stay on the right side of spamming, and I would not advise paying for any link building services as most of them are simply a con, any that are not will cost you a great deal of money, and they are only going to do the legwork that you can do yourself.

8. List site on Flippa

Flippa is the biggest and most well known website for flipping or just selling websites and domain names. You could also use Sedo and there are many others. You do have to pay a small fee with Flippa, but as this is your biggest shop window I would advise that this is a price well worth paying.

Some people also flip websites via Ebay, I have personally never done this as I think it is hard to make your site stand out from all the poor quality sites they get listed on there, but you may be able to make it work. I would be interested to hear from anyone that has had success flipping websites using Ebay. The advantage of Ebay of course is that you could have the sale and transfer of the site almost completely automated using something like  idev-DigiEbay 3.0 which i do use for other purposes and is very good for selling digital goods on Ebay.

9. Sell Your site

Selling your site will not be a case of leaving your listing and then collecting the money. You will need to be on hand to answer questions of potential buyers.

You should also not forget to continue to market your site while it is listed for sale, the last thing you want is for there to be a drop off in visitor numbers which could potentially damage the sale price.

Be open, honest and friendly, talk to potential buyers, find out what they think and work with them to get them to a position to make you an offer.

10. Spend your money!

Be aware that I have restricted the demo to stop people uploading 100′s of Mbs of Datafeeds to it and it will also reset on the hour every hour to keep it clean, but this should allow you to see how it works and see if it suits your requirements.

My plan is that I will work on several streams to my business, the most obvious being the WordPress Plugin Development, with more time to dedicate to this work, I will be able to not only develop the plugins I have further, but also finish off some of the plugns I have 90% developed and put time into coding up some more of the ideas I have for plugins that will help affiliate marketers and bloggers.

I also hope that I will be able to bring my affiliate marketing business back to where it once was. With time and effort I will be able to get all my sites, that are still down from a server failure 12 months ago, back up and running, and start to build their reputation once again.

I am starting out with a great deal more knowledge than I had before, I have read a great deal, and hopefully, picked up some useful hints and tips from the best in the business.

Over the last few days I have been looking back over the last 7-8 years that I have been doing affiliate marketing, and analysing what has worked and what has not. As a result I have decided to keep my affiliate marketing to about three niches, these are niches that I am interested in, knowledgeable about as I work in those sectors day-to-day, and are also sectors where I was successful in the past.

I did have a great spread of sites in many niches, I will become (at least in the first instance), more focused. I will then branch out into other areas. It was notable that the niches I was successful in were those I am interested and knowledgeable about, but there were also some strange exceptions, my greathampers site was very successful, so although this is outside my chosen niches I wil get that sit eback up and running and populated with content. I will not however, spend a great deal of time promoting that site, if it is successful I will re-consider, but I will leave it to tick over for now.

I also have several other business interests, including consulting on building your businesses online presence, but I hope that the mainstay of Digitalquill will be WordPress and online software development ad Affiliate marketing.

I intend that I will work smarter, not harder and hopefully work a Three day week, meaning I can also spend more time with the family, take more holidays to the places we love, like here in the Yorkshire Dales and who knows, eventually, if we are not tied to a location for work, re-locate to where we belong, here in the Yorkshire dales.
