I have set this blog up as my central home on the web. It is designed to pull together all my Internet activities (I have my fingers in a lot of pies as you will see if you read on) and a place to post things about my life and what I do that do not fit into the other places I have on the web.
Who am I?
I am Matt Houldsworth, I live in Hessle, East Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. I am married to my beautiful Cheryl with whom we have a young daughter Eva Lilia, who keeps us on our toes.
I run a small company called Digitalquill, in my ‘spare’ time, mainly developing websites involved with affiliate marketing and other online activities. Creating these websites is becoming less of a hobby and more of a serious way to make a living. I write about these activities on, one of my other blogs, Earning From Affiliates.
In the last couple of years my work has largely focused on development of web software. I have several pieces of software that are both freely and commercially available. Most of this software surrounds the development of Plugins for WordPress, these plugins extend wordpress to make it into something that is more than just a blogging platform. The software I have developed has until now been focused on Affiliate marketers, however, I have several new software packages and wordpress plugins that have a wide market appeal.
I am also interested in DIY and property development. I enjoy testing my skills. We are currently extending our home with a kitchen Orangery Extension, where I am doing most of the work myself. This is a very big project, but it is good to get my teeth into something really productive to improve our home.
As a family we are keen walkers, we enjoy taking a holiday to the Dales, North Yorkshire, Wales, Lakes… anywhere really and finding some nice walks to go on. Our focus has been on Eva but we are pleased that we have still been able to get out and about walking with her in her push chair or in her special rucksack on daddys back, and now that she is getting older and finding her legs she is happy to chase about and loves the outdoors.
Until recently we had a small allotment, we enjoyed growing our own fruit and veg and the idea was that we would take Eva down there to learn about where food comes from. Unfortunately the owners of the plot went back on their word and wanted it back. I suspect that they are ultimately wanting to either sell the land for development or build on it themselves, ironically if they had been honest with me I may have been interested in buying it myself. We ares till on the council waiting list, but we have been on that for over 2 and a half years so I am not holding my breath.
I am interested in all things technical, computing and audio visual, however my rule is it has to be useful technology. I like my gadgets but they must provide a benefit for me.
