Tdssserv.sys Trojan Virus (go.google Go.msn.com)

Over the weekend I got a strange Trojan virus on my main PC, it seemed to affect the search results of Google, such as when you clicked on any search result it took you to a random website, some of those sites were advertising sites but other times it went to BBC or other legitimate sites. I noticed that this was happening in both IE and Firefox (a poke in the eye to those who think Firefox is immune) and i also noticed that it I set a proxy it bypassed the Trojan and everything worked fine so I am thinking that the trojan installs some kind of proxy on your machine.

A scan with AVG, windows defender, adaware, and spybot did not find anything.

It also blocked the updating of virus guards and spyware scanners, but after booting up my trusty Apple Mac and doing a search I found the following solution.

  1. Right click on My Computer, Click Properties, Click the hardware tab and then select device manager
  2. in device manager click view and then select ‘Show hidden devices’
  3. Scroll down to “Non-plug and Play Drivers” and click the plus icon to open those drivers.
  4. Then go down to TDSSserv.sys”
  5. Right click on it, and click “Disable”Note: If you select Uninstall, it will install itself again when you reboot the system, so DON’T select Uninstall.
  6. Restart your computer
  7. Update you virus guard and do a system search and it will find the virus

You may have found other posts saying to install Malawarebytesbut this does not work and personally I do not trust it
